Boston Red Sox Reliever Comments on His Injury

The Boston Red Sox have lost four consecutive games, were embarrassed by the Mariners 10-1 on Monday night, and now appear to be down one of their most prominent relievers.

John Schreiber left Monday's game against the Mariners in the 7th inning with a lat injury. After throwing a pitch to Julio Rodriguez, Schreiber walked off the back of the mound, shook his arm out, and then the trainers came out to see him before he was removed.

After the game, manager Alex Cora said that Schreiber is likely headed to the injured list and Schreiber commented as well. You can watch his comments here, but there is a partial transcript:

"Some tightness on that last pitch, tightened up pretty good there, came out of the game for some caution. Take a look at it tomorrow and evaluate..."

Schreiber indicated that he'd been bothered by this issue for the last week or so but felt that he could pitch through it.

His loss would be a big one for a Red Sox bullpen that is much improved this year. Schreiber, Chris Martin, Josh Wincowski have helped Cora have matchups nightly late in games.

For the season, Schreiber is 1-0 with a 2.12 ERA. He's struck out 21 in 17.2 innings. A revelation in 2022, he went 4-4 with a 2.22 ERA, throwing in 64 games and picking up eight saves.

The loss dropped the Red Sox to 22-20 on the season while the win elevated the Mariners to 21-20.

The two teams will play on Tuesday at 7:10 p.m. ET.
