The Braves tentatively marked May 6th as the comeback date for Ronald Acuña, but based on his progression in Gwinnett, I always thought it was going to be much earlier than that. Thankfully, I was correct. The Braves have officially reactivated Acuña from the IL today, and I imagine he will be batting leadoff in the series finale against the Cubs.

This will undoubtedly provide a must-needed boost to the Braves lineup, which has been a struggling bunch to date, leading to an 8-11 start to the season. Atlanta is currently 5.5 games behind the Mets for first place, and while it’s only April, this isn’t a hole the Braves want to let get any deeper.

As a result of Acuña’s activation, Alex Dickerson has been designated for assignment. Dickerson was off to a rough start, hitting just .121, but the baseball gods weren’t doing him any favors. It seemed like he hit the ball hard every time he came to the plate, and it always found somebody’s glove. I’m sure he will latch on with another team, or he could end up providing organizational depth for the Braves.
