Chaim Bloom's Latest Comments Imply Big Moves Are Coming To Bolster Roster

The Boston Red Sox have spent the last few seasons trying to position themselves for perennial postseason contention behind chief baseball officer Chaim Bloom and appear to believe that time is coming.

Bloom spent a lot of time with the media yesterday and dropped some highly insightful news regarding the team's direction as the trade deadline approaches.

“Generally speaking, with the way we’ve been trying to build this and also the position we’re in... usually, when you’re in the position we’re in now and you start selling out for rentals, that often doesn’t go well," Bloom said, as transcribed by MassLive's Chris Cotillo. "

Obviously, those guys you can keep with you, those tend to be bigger acquisitions, and in some ways, for where we are, potentially more appealing. That’s easy to say and those guys are often in really high demand. But given where we are and the way that we’re building, I do think it’s something that we’re going be aggressive with.”

Bloom was alluding to players with multiple years of team control and picked the word "aggressive" when speaking on his approach to acquiring them before the deadline.

If the Red Sox are going to add players with multiple years of control, those deals typically come at a higher price and thus will be bigger moves. It's not time for the fanbase to start dreaming of controllable aces such as Chicago White Sox's Dylan Cease but a controllable backend starter or high-leverage reliever could be in the cards.

Bloom's comments are not only encouraging for this upcoming deadline but for how they approach the winter with a reset luxury tax. If he feels like this team is close, he will finally start to be aggressive in all avenues.
