Diamondbacks trade Andrew Chafin to Brewers, receive Peter Strzelecki in return
Rob Schumacher/The Republic / USA TODAY NETWORK

The Arizona Diamondbacks have traded reliever Andrew Chafin to the Milwaukee Brewers. In return, Arizona received 28-year-old RHP Peter Strzelecki, per Jon Gambadoro.

This move comes less than 24 hours after the Diamondbacks traded for a new closer in the form of Paul Sewald.

Peter Strezelcki is in his second season in the MLB. So far this year, Strezelcki has recorded a 4.54 ERA through 35 innings of work.

However, Strezelcki has shown tremendous promise as a middle reliever, as he started his 2023 campaign on a tear.

In the first 13.2 innings this year, Peter allowed just one earned run. Entering May, Strezelcki held an ERA of .66.

Additionally, the D-backs will have control over Strzelcki until 2028.

On the flip side, Andrew Chafin has struggled tremendously all season for the Diamondbacks. This disappointing season was highlighted by his outing against the Cardinals on July 24th. In this game, Chafin entered the ninth with a 6-5 lead, then exited after allowing five earned runs, resulting in a 10-6 loss.

The MLB trade deadline is at 6 p.m. EST, meaning the Diamondbacks only have one more hour if they want to make another move.
