Eloy Jimenez “ahead of schedule” after appendectomy
Kamil Krzaczynski-USA TODAY Sports

Prior to Saturday’s game, manager Pedro Grifol provided a positive update on outfielder/designated hitter Eloy Jimenez.

“Eloy had a full day today,” Grifol told the media. “He hit on the field, did some outfield stuff, he threw, he ran, he looked really good. His BP looked good and he’s probably a bit ahead of schedule, but again we’ll see how it goes.”

Jimenez is recovering from an appendectomy that was done during the Cincinnati series two weeks ago. Following the successful procedure, the team provided a recovery timeline of roughly 4-6 weeks.

The 26-year-old was on a tear at the plate prior to his injury. Over his last seven games, Jimenez is hitting .464/.516/.714 (13-for-28) with two homers, 8 RBI, and 6 runs scored. His presence in the lineup was a crucial part of the offense at the time, that has since relied on the power of players of Jake Burger and Gavin Sheets in his absence.

Though no update has been provided regarding his return, Jimenez says he would like to return as early as next week. The team will likely take their time, however, and wait until around the four-week mark at the earliest before letting him return to game action.

As we receive further updates, we’ll provide additional information.
