One former member of the Boston Red Sox has found himself a new home abroad.

Former Red Sox slugger Franchy Cordero had a roller coaster of a 2023 season with the New York Yankees and now reportedly has signed with the Seibu Lions of Nippon Professional Baseball, according to FanSided's Robert Murray.

"(First baseman/outfielder) Franchy Cordero is signing with the Seibu Lions, he announced on Instagram," Murray said. "Cordero, who has most recently played with the Red Sox and Yankees, joins Albert Abreu with the Lions."

Cordero initially signed with the Baltimore Orioles ahead of the 2023 campaign to a minor league contract. He shined in spring training but failed to make the big league club and was released which paved the way to his signing with New York.

He shined out the gate for New York and actually became the first player in team history to club four home runs and drive in at least 11 runs in his first seven games with the team but things changed after that.

Overall, Cordero appeared in just 24 games with New York last season and slashed .188/.211/.478 with six home runs and 13 RBIs. He spent most of the season with the Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders. After the season, he was taken off New York's 40-man roster and elected free agency.

Cordero has played in parts of seven seasons at the big league level with the San Diego Padres, Kansas City Royals, Red Sox, and Yankees. Boston acquired Cordero ahead of the 2021 season and he spent parts of two seasons with the team before being non-tendered and becoming a free agent last offseason.
