Former Angels Pitcher '99 Percent' Retired From MLB

Former Angels relief pitcher Javy Guerra is "99.9 percent retired." He told J.P. Hoornstra of Dodgers Nation earlier this week.

The longtime MLB pitcher began his career with the Los Angeles Dodgers back in 2011. He spent three seasons with L.A., and then spent two with the Chicago White Sox until joining the Los Angeles Angels in 2016.

The Angels signed Guerra to a minor league deal with an invitation to spring training, and ended up making seven appearances with the Halos, sporting a 5.68 ERA in 6.1 innings pitched.

Guerra spent the next two seasons with the Miami Marlins, then played with the Toronto Blue Jays before finishing his career with the Washington Nationals.

Guerra last played in Major League Baseball in 2021, and spent the last two years in the Mexican League. In 2023, he had a 5.77 ERA in 43 appearances with the Tijuana Toros.

Guerra had a career 3.98 ERA in 272 appearances. His best season came in 2012 with the Dodgers, when he had a 2.60 ERA in 45 appearances.

Guerra was a part of the 2019 World Series winning Nationals and made two appearances in the World Series against the Houston Astros, allowing one run in three innings pitched.
