Former Dodgers Closer '99.9 Percent' Retired From MLB

Former Dodgers closer Javy Guerra told J.P. Hoornstra of dodgersnation.com that he's "99.9 percent retired" from Major League Baseball.

Guerra, 38, said barring a last-minute contract offer, he's done playing in Major League Baseball.

Guerra was drafted in the fourth round of the 2004 MLB Draft by the Dodgers, and made his debut with Los Angeles in 2011.

After closing for the Dodgers in 2011 — accruing 21 saves and a 2.31 ERA — he had just eight saves in 2012, and struggled in 2013 across just nine appearances.

In March of 2014, Guerra was designated for assignment by the Dodgers, and claimed by the Chicago White Sox.

Guerra would spend two seasons with the White Sox, before playing with the Los Angeles Angels, Miami Marlins, Toronto Blue Jays and Washington Nationals before completing his MLB career.

Guerra was a part of the World Series winning Nationals squad in 2019, and his last season in MLB came in 2021

Since then, he's spent two seasons in the Mexican League with the Tijuana Toros. In 2023, he had a 5.77 ERA in 43 appearances.

Across his 11-year MLB career, Guerra went 11-13 with a 3.98 ERA and 33 saves in 272 appearances.
