Guerra is 28 years old and was once ranked one of the top prospects in baseball as he made his way through the Boston Red Sox and Padres minor league system.
As a member of the Friars, he was solid. In four seasons, from 2019-2022, he earned a 1-0 record in 27 games with 22 strikeouts, a 5.47 FIP, 1.88 WHIP, and an 8.46 ERA. At first, Guerra was an infielder; however, entering the 2019 season, the Padres converted him into a relief pitcher.
Guerra struggled to stay healthy in his entire tenure with the Padres. San Diego decided to trade the righty reliever in mid-April 2022 to the Tampa Bay Rays.
The pitcher will now get a chance to redeem himself in the NPB. We wish Javy the best in his journey and hopefully see him back in the majors.
