GDB -22.0: Leading Spring Training in runs scored, Toronto Blue Jays host Phillies
Nathan Ray Seebeck-USA TODAY Sports

Eleven days left until the games start to matter. Not that anybody is counting, or anything.

Sunday’s game for the Toronto Blue Jays against the Philadelphia Phillies marks the final game of the middle third of their Spring Training games, as they inch pitch closer to March 28th’s season opener. Not that anybody is counting, or anything.

For the Jays, there are lots of things to like. Namely, through their first 21 games of Spring Training, they’ve racked up the most runs scored of any team, with 130. Yes, you read that right. 130 runs. Most of any team. It’s a good sign to see for the team, given Don Mattingly took on the new role of offensive coordinator, looking to get the most out of all the Jays’ bats. Bo Bichette, George Springer and Spencer Horwitz have each scored over seven runs, helping lead the charge for the team.

On the contrary, they’ve also given up 121 runs — the sixth most of any team in Spring Training. All this, mind you, without ace Kevin Gausman on the mound, but I digress. 28 of those runs alone have come off Chad Green, Yusei Kikuchi and Yosver Zulueta, each allowing six in a combined 14 innings pitched, as well as five each to Chris Bassit and Mitch White. In the case of Bassitt, he’s pitched 14 and two-thirds innings alone, with a 3.07 ERA. The same can’t be said for the others.

Nonetheless, the Jays’ Grapefruit League play continues this afternoon, paying a visit to the Philadelphia Phillies.
