Guardians' Myles Straw: Yankees fans got 'personal' in ALDS loss

Cleveland Guardians outfielder Myles Straw expected to encounter a hostile environment during Tuesday's Game 1 of the American League Division Series at the New York Yankees. Straw suggested after what became a 4-1 defeat that some fans at Yankee Stadium went too far.

"There were a few. I’m not going to say what they said, there’s no point," Straw said of some jeers he heard on Tuesday evening, according to Mark W. Sanchez of the New York Post. "They were personal. It’s all good though."

Straw's unpleasant relationship with members of the Yankee faithful stems back to an April 23 incident in which he climbed an outfield fence and exchanged words with some fans he said had mocked teammate Steven Kwan after Kwan suffered an injury while attempting to make a defensive play. As noted by the Post's Ethan Sears, Straw said after that contest he considered Yankees supporters the "worst fan base on the planet."

The television broadcast picked up boos and chants of "a------" directed at Straw on Tuesday. Kwan, meanwhile, produced Cleveland's only run of the Game 1 loss when he hit a solo homer off Yankees starter Gerrit Cole in the third inning.

"It’s kind of sucky, but it’s also a privilege to have that kind of happen in a game like this," Kwan added about fans repeatedly booing him on Tuesday. "It’s one of the biggest stages, so it’s kind of cool when something like that happens."

Currently, the Guardians and Yankees are scheduled to complete the second contest of the five-game series in the Bronx on Thursday evening. However, Brendan Kuty of NJ Advance Media for NJ.com mentioned that inclement weather could push that matchup to Friday.
