Houston Astros' Slugger Dealing with Knee Soreness, Concern Level is Low

Houston Astros' slugger Jose Abreu is dealing with knee soreness, but the overall concern level on the injury is low.

Per Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle:

José Abreu is dealing with right knee soreness from his sliding attempt on the foul ball Thursday in Jupiter. Joe Espada said Abreu will rest for a few days but there are “no concerns.”

The 37-year-old Abreu is heading into his second season with the Astros after previously spending nine with the Chicago White Sox. He'll pair with Jose Altuve, Alex Bregman, Kyle Tucker and Yordan Alvarez to make up one of the best lineups in all of baseball.

Abreu started slow last year but came on later in the year to finish with 18 homers and 90 RBI. He did only hit .237, which was a far cry from his career average of .286.

Abreu is a three-time All-Star who won the MVP in the American League during the COVID 2020 season. In addition to his .286 career average, he's got 261 homers and 953 RBI. He also won the Rookie of the Year Award in the American League back in 2014.

The Astros are coming off a season in which they won the American League West title but were eliminated in seven games during the ALCS by the Texas Rangers. The Astros won the World Series in 2022 and have been a staple in the ALCS, making it in each of the last four years. They also advanced to the World Series in 2021.
