What did the best week of your life look like? Did you welcome a child into the world? Was it your big wedding day? Was it a trip you’ll never forget or even perhaps a wild party? Well, Luke Williams has you beat. He started off playing for Team USA in the Olympic qualifiers and hitting everything he saw.

That was just in the first game. Over the 4-game qualifiers, Williams went 8-16 with 6 RBI and 6 runs scored. On Saturday, Williams scored one of Team USA’s 4 runs en route to defeating Venezuela. Willian is a major reason why Team USA will compete in the Tokyo Olympics this summer.
Helping your country represent its national pastime on a global scale is a solid way to start your week. How could it get better? Being promoted to the Major Leagues might be a way.
After the Phillies demoted Nick Maton and removed Scott Kingery from the 40-man roster, Luke Williams got the call in time to welcome in the Atlanta Braves.

Not only did Williams tear up the Olympic trials to earn this promotion, but he dominated in Triple-A as well. In 18 games for the Iron Pigs, William hit a blistering .352. His .904 OPS was second on the team only to a breakout “Yukon” Cornelius Randolph.
Williams will most likely fill a utility role for the Phillies as he can play second, third, and left field. Rated by MLB.com as the Phillies’ 29th best prospect, Williams’ best tool is his speed (graded a 65/80). If his bat has truly come along, he could be a great asset for the Phillies.
Until then, excuse us as we at Philly Sports Network get just a tad patriotic for a Phillies’ Olympic Hero.
