MLB best bets: Wiesguy's 2 Picks and a Prop for 6/26

There is no other way to put it, last week was a bad week. I am blaming it on Summer starting last Wednesday. Who knew that was going to happen, or that the Cincinnati Reds and San Francisco Giants were going to emerge as juggernaut teams?

All jokes aside, each new week gives us a chance to reset and we have a small card on Monday so I can really hone in. Those red-hot Reds are now in Baltimore against the upstart Orioles. Is this a 2026 World Series preview or are those teams ready for 2023? This series might give us a little info.

Let's see if we can use it and insight to get back to winning tonight.

MLB Picks for Monday June 26

Favorite
Texas Rangers -1.5 (-105) (vs. Detroit Tigers)

This one is part backing the Rangers and part fading the Tigers. I am encouraged by the fact that Texas has played so well at home and their RL record is even a little better than their SU record at Globe Life. I am not buying into the fact that Matthew Boyd is 4-0 on the road. I see an average pitcher at best who is likely to get hit by one of the best lineups in the Majors. Fellow lefty Andrew Heaney has not given up more than three ER in eight straight starts. I like that consistency.

Underdog
Cincinnati Reds +110 (at Baltimore Orioles)

The Reds saw their long winning streak come to an end over the weekend against equally hot Atlanta. A couple of close games are not going to throw me off though. This team is still clicking and they look to have an advantage on the mound to start with Brandon Williamson against Cole Irvin, the latter is not even averaging four innings per start this season. Baltimore is not in bad form but the Reds have been looking great.

Prop
Justin Verlander Over 6.5 Strikeouts +100

Verlander has not been the pitcher we expected so far this season. I think it is still in there somewhere though and at least for tonight, he faces a Milwaukee lineup that likes to swing and miss — the Brewers have the third-worst K rate in the league. Verlander has worked at least six innings in back-to-back starts so the length should be there.
