New York Yankees Dominating Hated Rivals In 2024
Wendell Cruz-USA TODAY Sports

With a dominant 10-3 win over the Houston Astros on Tuesday night, the New York Yankees improved to 5-0 on the season against the Houston Astros. The New York Yankees swept the Astros on the road in a four-game set in late March and won the first game of their three-game set on Tuesday. The Astros and Yankees play on Wednesday and Thursday to close out their slate of regular season matchups.

The hatred between these ballclubs goes back to 2017 when it was uncovered the Astros used an elaborate cheating scheme in the ALCS. The Astros would go on to win the 2017 World Series. Yankees fans are still jaded from seven years ago and how they believe an opportunity at a World Series was taken away from them.

The New York Yankees have gotten off to a blazing start while the Astros are in the midst of a nightmare start. How will the fortunes of these perennial contenders change over the coming months?

New York Yankees On Fire To Begin 2024

The Yankees(24-13) are tied for first place in the American League East with the Baltimore Orioles. New York has the most wins in the American League. They have one of the best offenses in all of Major League Baseball as they are eighth in runs, third in home runs, and top 10 both in both Slugging and OPS. Right Fielder Juan Soto has exceeded expectations during his first few months in the Bronx.

Soto is leading the New York Yankees in every major offensive category and is top 10 in the league in both batting average in RBI. New York’s pitching staff has been the surprising part of the team up until this point. New York is still without reigning CY Young Award winner Gerrit Cole, who has remained sidelined since Spring Training with an elbow injury. New York’s pitching staff is second in the league in ERA and the league leader in saves.

Houston Astros Searching For Success In 2024

The Houston Astros are last in the American League West with a record of 12-23. Houston has been one of the most consistent teams in all of baseball over the last decade but is in danger of missing the MLB Playoffs for the first since 2016. Houston’s offense is not where it has been in years past, but the main culprit behind such a miserable start has been one of the worst pitching staffs in all of Major League Baseball.

Justin Verlander had a late start to his 2024 season and this did not help the struggling pitching staff. He suffered a shoulder injury in Spring Training and got rocked on Tuesday night. He surrendered seven earned runs in five innings of work. The Astros also have the fourth-worst ERA in the league this season.

Where Does Each Team Go From Here?

The New York Yankees are in a prime position to win their first World Series since 2009 while the Houston Astros continue to search for success from years past.
