NY Yankees acquire reliever Caleb Ferguson through trade from LA Dodgers, team strengthens bullpen ahead of 2024 season
Stephen Brashear-USA TODAY Sports

As the month of February rolls on, the countdown for the MLB spring training starts as well. This has seen the pace in offseason increase even further as teams continues to bring in some new recruits. The New York Yankees have now strengthen their bullpen with the trade of Caleb Ferguson .

The left hand reliever is now moving away from the Los Angeles Dodgers and joining the Yankees. In exchange of this trade, the Yankees have given away Matt Gage and Christian Zazueta .

This is now the second trade between the Yankees and the Dodgers this offseason. In December 2023, the 27-time World Series winners received left-handed reliever Victor Gonzalez and infielder Jorbit Vivas in exchange of shortstop Trey Sweeney from the Los Angeles based franchise.

Last season, Ferguson once again left his mark from the bullpen. In 68 appearances (along with seven starts), the southpaw posted a 7-4 record with three saves. He pitched with an ERA of 3.43 and picked up 70 strikeouts in the process.

The Yankees had a disappointing campaign last time out and are looking to make things right. Apart from this trade, they have added the option of Marcus Stroman in the rotation.

They now have Ferguson and González along with Clay HolmesJonathan Loaisiga and Tommy Kahnle as strong options in the bullpen. It is though likely that the Bronx Bombers could add another pitching asset to their squad as they prepare for the upcoming season.

LA Dodgers re-sign Ryan Brasier following Caleb Ferguson’s trade

If there is any team that has enjoyed the MLB offseason this time then its definitely the Los Angeles Dodgers. The National League side have assembled another star-studded squad with the acquisitions of Shohei Ohtani, Tyler Glasnow, Yoshinobu Yamamoto and Teoscar Hernandez. They have now gone on and re-signed reliever Ryan Brasier following the trade of Caleb Ferguson.

The 36-year-old veteran did not enjoy the best of starts to the 2023 season with the Boston Red Sox and was later traded to the Dodgers. This move revamped his career and he once again become a formidable pitcher from the mound.

According to Jon Heyman, the Dodgers have now re-signed him. Whereas reports from LA Times suggest that the veteran reliever has agreed on a two-year, $9 million deal with the team. This deal of Brasier could reach upto $13 million through the incentives present.

He will join the bullpen including options such as Evan Phillips , Brusdar Graterol and Joe Kelly . Needless to say, the Dodgers are looking as one of the hot favorites for the World Series crown in 2024. A glimpse on how things could work out for them could be seen in few days time when the team faces off against rivals San Diego Padres in the Seoul Series in South Korea.
