Philadelphia Phillies Offer Brutal Update On Trae Turner
Katie Stratman-USA TODAY Sports

Philadelphia Phillies star Trea Turner has been a major reason for the team getting off to as hot of a starter as they have. Entering action on Saturday, the Phillies were in first place in the NL East with a 22-11 record, a half-game ahead of the Atlanta Braves.

Unfortunately for the Phillies, they are going to be without their star shortstop for the foreseeable future. The team placed Turner on the 10-day IL on Saturday, but he is going to be sidelined for much longer than that.

He told reporters that he is expected to miss six weeks after suffering a hamstring strain. If he can return before those six weeks, it would be considered a win. Up to this point, Turner had been one of the most productive players in baseball.

Trea Turner started all 33 games for the Philadelphia Phillies. He was having an incredible start at the plate, owning an impressive .343 batting average with a .392 on-base percentage and a .460 slugging percentage.

His 47 total hits were second in the National League, while his 27 runs and 10 doubles were both good for fourth place. Two home runs, nine RBIs and 10 stolen bases rounded out a very strong back of the baseball card.

Losing a player of that caliber for at least six weeks is a major blow and virtually impossible for one player to replace. It is going to take a complete team effort to replace what Trea Turner was bringing to the Philadelphia Phillies offense this season.

In a corresponding move, the team has recalled infielder Kody Clemens from Triple-A Lehigh Valley. Clemens, the son of seven-time Cy Young award winner Roger Clemens, has played in one game with the Phillies this season.

It was a very successful outing, as he went 2-for-4 with a double, home run and three RBI. In his major league career, Clemens has hit .196 in 104 games between the Philadelphia Phillies and Detroit Tigers. He has shown a little pop with 10 home runs and 33 RBIs.
