Phillies Are Busy Finding Deals if Nola Doesn't Return

While the Philadelphia Phillies need to make a decision on Aaron Nola, Dave Dombrowski realizes that they can't stop talking to other teams.

Philadelphia is reportedly interested in bringing back Nola, but there are questions about what his contract could look like. If Nola wants the reported $200 million, it could be in the Phillies' best interest to shy away from a deal. 

No matter what, they're still going to add a pitcher or two and realize that they can't wait for Nola.

The Athletic's Jayson Stark had the following to report from the GM meetings last week:

"According to major-league sources who attended the GM meetings last week, the Phillies were already busy laying the groundwork for Life Without Nola, if it comes to that.

"They made contact with a number of teams that could trade a starting pitcher this winter. They also touched base with agents for a long list of free-agent starters — and not necessarily just the ace types."

With free agents and tradeable arms out there this offseason, plenty of arms will be available for Philadelphia. Of those include, Jordan Montgomery, Japanese star Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Sonny Gray, Tyler Glasnow, Blake Snell, and others.

In these discussions with other general managers, Philadelphia is making it clear that they're open to making deals to replace Nola. 

Dave Dombrowski has proven that he won't let the team sit back and not make a move if it becomes available. There's no reason to believe that will change this offseason.
