Phillies GM Emerges as Front Runner for Red Sox Vacancy
USA TODAY Sports

The Boston Red Sox are searching for their next person to lead their baseball operations department. It is one of the most coveted high-level executive jobs in the game.

This comes after the Red Sox fired chief baseball officer Chaim Bloom earlier this month. It came after four years of mediocrity and questionable decisions, the biggest of which was moving future Hall of Famer Mookie Betts.

As the search begins for a new front man, one name has emerged - Sam Fuld of the Philadelphia Phillies

According to USA Today, Fuld, who is the current general manager of the Phillies, is a leading candidate to get the job.

Fuld has had the opportunity to learn under one of the best executives in the game in Dave Dombrowski over the course of the last few seasons. He has also helped construct one of the best offenses and rotations in the game.

Shrewd trades and free agent signings have also occurred under Fuld's watch. Add in the fact he is just 41 years old and he makes a perfect fit for Boston who is looking for someone younger to lead their organization.

Philadelphia was so impressed by Fuld that in December of last year the team signed him to an extension through the 2025 MLB season.

Even then, an upward move such as leading the Boston Red Sox baseball operations department would be enough for him to make the move despite being under contract.

Fuld is becoming a hot commodity and is only getting hotter as the Philadelphia Phillies continue to find more success.
