Rangers Boast Five Top 100 MLB Prospects
USA TODAY Sports

The Texas Rangers have five of baseball’s top 100 prospects after MLB.com re-ranked its list on Monday.

The collection is led by outfielder Evan Carter at No. 8. Pitcher Owen White, who made his MLB debut two weeks ago, was No. 48.

The other three are infielder Luisangel Acuña (49), pitcher Brock Porter (65), and pitcher Jack Leiter (96).

Carter just returned to Double-A Frisco after a stint on the injured list due to a wrist issue. For the season he’s slashed .289/.414/.453/.867 with seven home runs and 34 RBI.

White was promoted to Triple-A Round Rock after his debut with the Rangers as a reliever and made his Express debut last week. He was also just selected to represent the Rangers and the American League in the MLB Futures Game on July 8.

He is 2-3 with a 3.52 ERA in the minors.

Acuña is the younger brother of Atlanta Braves star Ronald Acuña Jr. The younger Acuña is putting together a fine season at Frisco. He’s slashed .297/.359/.440/.799 with five home runs and 39 RBI.

Porter is having a fine first professional season with Class-A affiliate Down East, where the Wood Ducks recently clinched a playoff berth. Porter is 0-1, but he has a 1.70 ERA and has struck out 53 while walking 24 in 37 innings.

Leiter had one of the steepest drops from the preseason rankings. He is ranked No. 72, but MLB.com cited some inconsistency issues on Leiter’s part. He’s had a solid run the past half-dozen starts and is now 2-3 with a 4.03 ERA. He’s struck out 80 and has walked 38. He is currently on the Frisco developmental list.
