The St. Louis Cardinals have called the Houston Astros regarding the availability of starting pitcher Jake Odorizzi, per Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Odorizzi starts Sunday for the Astros in his final appearance before the trade deadline.

Houston has been rumored to move one of its starting seven starting pitchers with José Urquidy receiving the most buzz. But with Odorizzi joining the mix, his 2023 player option doesn't entice many contenders due to the right-hander's inconsistencies and recent injuries.

Nonetheless, Odorizzi makes his 12th start of the season Sunday and his third against the Seattle Mariners in 2022. The 32-year-old entered the day with a 3.27 ERA and a 0.95 WHIP over eight starts since April 26.
