Report: Mets manager Luis Rojas 'safe' for now

Shortly after the New York Mets fell to the St. Louis Cardinals 6-5 on Monday night, word broke that the Amazins parted ways with hitting coach Chili Davis and assistant Tom Slater even though New York's bats showed life as of late and produced 18 runs over the past three games. 

While ownership and the front office may or may not have been trying to send a message with the departures, SNY's Andy Martino reports that manager Luis Rojas is safe and won't be going anywhere anytime soon. Martino added that Rojas is "not at all on the hot seat now" even though the Mets still haven't picked up the manager's contract option for 2022. 

The Mets making a change so early into the season wasn't shocking even though they began the week as the betting favorites to win the National League East title. Following Monday's action, New York fell to 11-12 on the campaign and, per ESPN stats, remains dead last in the NL with 76 runs scored this year. 

Just as disheartening for Mets fans, four-time All-Star shortstop Francisco Lindor saw his batting average drop to .163 after yet another woeful night at the plate that included his slump growing to 0-for-21.
