Report: Yoenis Cespedes holding showcase for MLB teams in March

Yoenis Cespedes has plans to play in Major League Baseball this coming season. 

The free-agent outfielder will hold a showcase for MLB teams on March 2 with the intention of playing in 2021, according to The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal.

Cespedes, 35, opted out of the pandemic-shortened season after an absence from the New York Mets. He was reportedly upset about his role and lack of playing time with the franchise. According to Rosenthal, Cespedes also opted out due to COVID-19 concerns. 

The two-time All-Star signed a four-year, $110 million deal with the Mets after the 2016 campaign. He hit .279/.344/.539 with 76 home runs and 205 RBI in four-and-a-half seasons. 

It's unclear which teams will attend Cespedes's workout and which clubs are interested in him. He has also played for the Oakland Athletics, Detroit Tigers and Boston Red Sox.
