Robbie Ray Won A Hilarious Battle Against A Former Teammate

The Seattle Mariners and Kansas City Royals finished off their weekend series on Sunday afternoon at Kauffman Stadium.

Prior to the start of the game, we had ourselves a little bit of a standoff between two former teammates.

Pitchers Robbie Ray and Luke Weaver were teammates with the Arizona Diamondbacks from 2018-2020.

Yesterday, after the national anthem, the two remained on their respective sidelines with their caps over their hearts as if the anthem was still going on.

As they hilariously stared at each other, the umpires motioned for them to get off the field.

When they refused, they were both ejected, but Weaver blinked first, giving Ray the victory in the standoff.

Ray Wins Standoff With Weaver

This of course is not the first time a game has begun with a standoff.

Recall Game 6 of the 2013 NLCS between the Los Angeles Dodgers and St. Louis Cardinals, when Scott Van Slyke and Joe Kelly remained on the sidelines until umpire Greg Gibson motioned for them to get off the field.

Van Slyke won that round.

Yesterday, it was Ray who came away victorious.

But it’s unfortunate that the umpires felt the need to eject both players.

It’s not like they were doing anything wrong.

It was just a fun, good-natured standoff between two former teammates and close friends.

It was at the very least, pretty hilarious.

In the end, Ray emerged as the victor, but Weaver put up a good battle as the standoff raged on.

Unfortunately, the umpires decided to ruin the fun and eject them both from the game.

But at least we got to see a standoff, right?

We can only hope that next time, the umpires don’t eject those involved.
