Rockies Insider Reveals An Ongoing Nolan Arenado Problem
Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports

Nolan Arenado recently opted into the remaining five years of his contract with the St. Louis Cardinals.

Arenado came to St. Louis from the Colorado Rockies in a trade that still haunts the Rockies organization.

Not only did the Rockies not get much back in return, but they also sent $50 million the Cardinals way and took on the vast majority of Arenado’s remaining salary.

As such, Arenado will be the Rockies’ second-highest paid player in 2023, as was reported by team insider Nick Groke.

Meanwhile, the Cardinals still have him for cheap and will have him in their lineup through at least the 2027 season.

The Trade That Haunts The Rockies

Arenado is the gift that keeps on giving for the Cardinals and their fans.

For the Rockies, it’s another grim reminder of the price they paid thanks to owner Richard Monfort and former general manager Jeff Bridich making the deal and not getting much back in return.

The Cardinals have a deep and talented lineup thanks to that trade.

The Rockies on the other hand, are stuck paying the vast majority of his remaining salary.

At the end of the day, the trade was one of the biggest mistakes by the Rockies’ front office in recent memory.

The organization and the fans are haunted by it to this day.

Not even signing Kris Bryant was enough to help the Rockies offset the damage done by that deal.

Being stuck paying most of his remaining salary is just adding insult to injury for the Rockies.
