Seattle Mariners "Not Out of the Woods" With Regards to Top Reliever's Arm Issues

While the initial report on Matt Brash's elbow was good, the Seattle Mariners are reportedly "not out of the woods" just yet.

Brash, who was shut down from throwing last week, was diagnosed with elbow inflammation on Friday and was told he could resume throwing next week.

That's certainly good news, but Mariners' manager Scott Servais didn't say there were no worries at all moving forward.

In short, good news for now. But as always with the arms of pitchers, tomorrow could be a different story.

“Any time guys have arm issues, oftentimes people go to the worst-case scenario,” said Scott Servais. “I don’t think we are out of the woods yet by any means, but the initial report and where we are going to go with it is positive. We are going to pick up a ball soon and see where it goes from there. Good for him. And again, we will keep our fingers crossed.”

Because of a delayed spring, and his importance to the organization, the M's are likely to have Brash start the year on the injured list no matter what. If and when he returns to the 'pen, he'll pair with Andres Munoz and Gregory Santos to make a dynamic end-of-game trio for Servais.

The 25-year-old Brash is one of the nastiest pitchers in all of baseball, complete with a triple-digit fastball and a wicked slider. He went 9-4 last season for Seattle with a 3.06 ERA and led baseball in appearances with 78. He made his major league debut in 2022 and made five starts before heading to Triple-A and resurfacing as a dynamite reliever.
