Stephen Vogt Had A Storybook Ending To His MLB Career
D. Ross Cameron-USA TODAY Sports

2022 has been a year of farewells for a few players around baseball.

For Stephen Vogt, the final farewell was quite beautiful.

Yesterday, Vogt got the start behind the plate for the Oakland Athletics in their season finale against the Los Angeles Angels, which also was the finale of his career.

Vogt went 1-for-2 with a walk and a home run, and that home run just so happened to come in his final at-bat.

Vogt’s day began with his kids announcing his name in unison when he came to bat for the first time and ended in storybook fashion, with him hitting a home run in his final at-bat, back with the team he spent the vast majority of his career with.

Vogt Ends His Career In Style

Baseball is simply beautiful.

In a year full of storybook endings, Vogt certainly got his.

There’s no other way to describe it other than storybook.

Vogt was well-loved in Oakland and was a part of a few great Athletics teams over the years, reaching the postseason in 2013 and 2014.

So it just had to end this way, with him hitting a home run in his final career at-bat.

You can’t make this stuff up.

You can’t script baseball.

You can never predict when an amazing moment like this is going to take place, but it happened at the Oakland Coliseum yesterday with Vogt.

His family was in attendance, his kids got to announce his name when he came to bat for the first time, and he hit a blast in his final at-bat.

You can’t possibly script it any better than this.

Vogt certainly ended his career on a good note, and with a moment he’ll never forget.
