This Insane Achievement of Baltimore Orioles Star Adley Rutschman Just Keeps Going
USA TODAY Sports

The Baltimore Orioles beat the Seattle Mariners 1-0 on Saturday in ten innings.

It was a great game that delivered a playoff-type atmosphere. The Mariners lost despite a historic pitching performance and O's catcher Adley Rutschman continued some incredible personal history as well.

Per Sarah Langs of MLB.com:

most consecutive series of 2+ games played in without being swept, to start career since 1900:

1941-44 Whitey Kurowski: 110

2022-pres. Adley Rutschman: 76 ** active streak extended w/SEA series h/t @EliasSports

it's wordy ik but tl dr we needed that no-sweep note for Adley!!

Rutschman has never been swept in his entire career thus far, and the O's success coincides with his arrival in the big leagues. Baltimore itself hasn't been swept for 77 straight series, meaning that almost the entirety of the O's "sweepless" streak involves him being in the majors.

One of the best young players in baseball, Rutschman was named an All-Star this season. He's hitting .271 with 16 homers and 57 RBI through 428 at-bats. He's also posted a .799 OPS, all while leading and navigating the Orioles' pitching staff.

The 25-year-old is the former No. 1 overall draft pick out of Oregon State (2019).

After the win on Saturday, Baltimore is now 72-45. They have the most wins in the American League and lead the American League East by 2.0 games over the Tampa Bay Rays.

The Orioles and Mariners play again on Sunday afternoon. First pitch is set for 4:10 p.m. ET as Kyle Bradish (BAL) pitches against Bryce Miller (SEA).
