Travis Jankowski First Rehab Hits
USA TODAY Sports

Texas Rangers outfielder Travis Jankowski finally got the first hits of his rehab assignment with the Triple-A Round Rock Express on Thursday.

Jankowski batted second and was the designated hitter in his third game on rehab. Jankowski played in the outfield for his first two games.

He’s with the Express along with catcher Mitch Garver, who is also doing injury rehab. Garver did not play on Thursday.

Jankowski went hitless in his first two games with the Express, going 0-for-6 with a walk. That changed on Thursday as he went 3-for-4 and drove in two runs.

In fact, Jankowski’s double was part of a four-run third inning.

The Rangers have not announced how long his rehab assignment will be, but he eligible to be activate when ready.

Jankowski left the May 7 game with the Los Angeles Angels after tweaking a hamstring crossing the plate in the 16-8 victory.

After the game he was diagnosed with right hamstring tightness. The Rangers put Jankowski on the injured list retroactive to May 8.

Jankowski is batting .309 with nine RBI so far this season. While shortstop Corey Seager was out of the lineup, Jankowski was one of the players Bochy turned to in the No. 2 spot in the batting order.

The Rangers are also 17-7 with Jankowski in the lineup this season.

The Rangers signed the former first-round pick before Spring Training and nearly cut him before it was clearly that center fielder Leody Taveras would not be ready for Opening Day due to injury. The Rangers kept Jankowski and he’s made himself a valuable part of their outfield rotation.
