Versatile Former Detroit Tigers' Infielder Signs on in Mexican League For 2024

After six years in the big leagues, former Detroit Tigers and Colorado Rockies' infielder Harold Castro has signed with the Toros De Tijuana of the Mexican League.

The team made the announcement on social media. The post was made in Spanish, but has translated through "X:"

The 30-year-old utility player spent five years with the Tigers and one with the Rockies before making this decision. Lifetime, he's a .278 hitter with 16 homers. He hit just .252 for the Rockies last year in 99 games.

Castro has played every position except catcher in his career and should provide great versatility in Mexico as well. If he's able to put together a solid season, there's certainly a chance that he could end up back in the majors.

We frequently see players move over to foreign leagues, produce, and then come back. For instance, Chicago White Sox pitcher Chris Flexen spent time in Korea and used that time to earn a deal with the Seattle Mariners. Former Washington Nationals pitcher Erik Fedde just returned from Korea to get a deal with the White Sox.

Castro made his major league debut in 2018 with the Tigers and enjoyed his best season in 2019 when he hit .291 over 97 games. He also hit .283 back in 2021.

Castro had a career-high 47 RBI in 2022.
