The Chicago White Sox 2-1 win over the Detroit Tigers on Saturday had one of the weirdest endings of the 2023 season.
The White Sox secured the win in the 10th inning when Yoan Moncada was able to score on a wild pitch from Tigers reliever Jose Cisnero. But it was not an ordinary wild pitch that allowed Moncada to score.
Cisnero's pitch drilled home plate umpire Cory Blaser directly in the face mask, before bouncing away and giving Moncada a chance to score.

Blaser was immediately knocked to the ground, while White Sox players were clearly subdued in their celebration knowing the situation.
Major League Baseball has not offered a specific update on Blaser's status, other than he is currently undergoing evaluation.
The White Sox had a miserable start to the 2023 season and were 13-27 after their first 40 games. They have gradually started to turn things around and all of a sudden are 12-8 over their past 20 games with Saturday's win.
Given how bad the rest of the American League Central has been this season they are still only 7.5 games out of first place despite the bad record.
The Minnesota Twins at 31-27 are the only team in the division with a winning record while every other team is at least three games under .500 entering play on Saturday.
