White Sox Drop Second Straight to Twins

On Friday night, the Chicago White Sox dropped their second straight at home against the Minnesota Twins. A second-inning grand slam and solid pitching is all Minnesota needed to put away Chicago. Elvis Andrus blasted a two-run homer in the fifth for the White Sox only two runs. 

Jesse Sholtens got the start for the White Sox and was the victim of Lewis's second-inning grand slam. Scholtens has been serviceable for the Pale Hose, keeping them in games for the most part. However, tonight got away from him quickly against the division rivals. 

It's Grandover

After singles to lead off the inning and a fielder's choice to advance both runners, Scholtens struck out Kyler Farmer before walking Edouardo Julien to load the bases with two outs. The righty left a 3-1 fastball in the middle of the zone, and the Twins took the lead and never looked back. 

Minnesota picked up a run in the third and the fourth off of the 29-year-old rookie. A fielding error by Tim Anderson on a ground ball by his counterpart Carlos Correa led to an unearned run in the third. Matt Wallner's two-out base hit scored Correa for the fifth Twins run, and the sixth run came in the sixth on a two-out single by Max Kepler. 

Relief Elvis

Tanner Banks and Bryan Shaw each pitched two innings of scoreless relief with two strikeouts. The four shutout frames didn't help as the White Sox offense could muster only seven hits, with the only extra-base hit coming off the bat of Elvis Andrus. 

Andrus belted a two-run homer in the fifth to cut the deficit to four. The White Sox had one runner reach second base when Eloy Jimenez singled and advanced on Yoan Moncada's flyout in the fourth.
