White Sox Shuffle 3 Pitchers to Set Up Jonathan Cannon's MLB Debut

The Chicago White Sox made three roster moves involving pitchers ahead of Tuesday's game against the Kansas City Royals. With Jonathan Cannon set to make his MLB debut Tuesday, the Sox selected his contract, optioned Jared Shuster to Triple-A Charlotte, and designated Josimar Cousin for assignment.

Cannon, MLB Pipeline's No. 11 White Sox prospect, joins the big-league club after making two starts for the Charlotte Knights to begin the season. The right-hander posted a 2.79 ERA with 11 strikeouts against five walks in 9.2 innings at the Triple-A level.

Despite providing effective long-relief outings for the White Sox to begin the season, Shuster heads to Charlotte as he still has minor-league options. The left-hander posted a 1.42 ERA with four strikeouts and two walks across 6.1 innings in two outings for the White Sox.

Cousin began the season with Double-A Birmingham and logged a 4.00 ERA with six strikeouts and four walks across nine innings in two outings. The 26-year-old was DFA'd to clear a 40-man roster spot for Cannon. He'll presumably remain with the Birmingham Barons if he clears waivers.
