White Sox Sign Jose Urena to Minor-League Deal
Jamie Germano/Democrat and Chronicle / USA TODAY NETWORK

The Chicago White Sox added to their farm Monday by signing pitcher Jose Urena to a minor-league deal.

Urena began the 2023 season with the Colorado Rockies but fizzled out quickly after a stretch of five abysmal starts. The 31-year-old had a 9.82 ERA and 2.236 WHIP with nine home runs allowed in just 18.1 innings.

After being released by Colorado, Urena latched on with the Washington Nationals' Triple-A club. He didn't fare much better there, posting a 6.72 ERA and 1.582 WHIP in 67 innings across 15 starts. Washington released Urena last week.

The Dominican right-hander has 813 innings of MLB experience in his nine-year career but has not logged an ERA under five since 2018 with the Miami Marlins.

Upon joining the White Sox organization, Urena was assigned to Triple-A Charlotte on Tuesday.
