X-rays negative for Mariners All-Star OF Julio Rodriguez

The Seattle Mariners can breathe a sigh of relief as general manager Jerry DiPoto told reporters Sunday that X-rays were negative on the hand injury suffered by star rookie Julio Rodriguez.

Rodriguez, 21, leads all rookies this season in several offensive categories, including hits (99), runs (55), home runs (18), RBI (57), and stolen bases (21)

On Saturday night, Rodriguez exited a game against the Houston Astros after getting hit on the wrist.

While the recovery timetable for Rodriguez remains unknown, the X-ray results suggest the Mariners won't be without the All-Star outfielder for long.

Seattle is in the thick of the playoff race and currently in control of the second of three AL Wild Card berths. With the Mariners on the verge of their first postseason appearance in 21 years, DiPoto told reporters that the team inquired about acquiring Washington Nationals outfielder Juan Soto or Los Angeles Angels pitcher/designated hitter Shohei Ohtani, but decided a trade for either player was infeasible.

The Mariners did, however, acquire two-time All-Star pitcher Luis Castillo in a trade with the Cincinnati Reds.

Abraham Toro pinch hit for Rodriguez on Saturday night and Seattle moved Adam Frazier from second base to center field.
