UFC CEO Dana White recently shed some light on a job he learned a lot from at a much earlier point in his life.

Prior to moving into the world of promoting fights, White worked a variety of jobs, including as a bellhop at a hotel, a bouncer, and laying asphalt.

As a teenager, White had also begun training in boxing, even flirting with professional ambitions at one point. However, seeing the grim state of those brain-damaged from years in the sport, the future promoter reconsidered, and instead moved into coaching.

Despite his many interesting professional experiences over the years, White recently singled out his time laying asphalt as the most educational.

'That Taught Me What Real Work Was' - Dana White

During a recent appearance on the Sage Steel Podcast, White fondly remembered his time working with asphalt. For the UFC CEO, doing pavement work opened his eyes to the grueling nature of what he termed "real work."

He went on to commend those who work in fields such as construction and paving, many of whom will work painfully long hours, with early starts, most days of the week without fail.

"I was a paver for these crazy Italian guys in Boston, the Evangelista brothers," White said. "Tommy, EJ, yeah, but that was the greatest job I ever had. The greatest job I ever had because that taught me what real work was. You go lay asphalt, and you do construction and pour concrete, and you do these type of things, that's when you really find out what real work is, what hard work is. These people that work construction, and paving and things like this, they get up every day, and they work hard."
