More nightmares at RCR as NASCAR suspends Austin Dillon’s jackman for substance abuse
Peter Casey-USA TODAY Sports

The 2024 NASCAR Cup Season has been a nightmare for Austin Dillon , who came to the season desperate to end his poor streak from last season. In the nine races so far this year, he has secured juts one top-10 finish and barring one odd P16 finish at Las Vegas, all his finishes has been outside the top-20.

He secured a P7 at the Autotrader EchoPark Automotive 400 last Sunday. It was Austin Dillon’s best finish of the season and the RCR team was very motivated by it. It ended a ten-race streak of non top-10 finishes for him. But positivity over the finish didn’t last long for the team, as NASCAR now has suspended a No:3 Chevy crew member.

The premier stock car racing body on Wednesday announced that, Nicholas Covey, who has been the jackman of the No:3 last time at Martinsville is suspended in definitely. He is found to have violated the substance abuse policy of the sport. It’s a disappointing phase of Convey’s career, who was previously a linebacker at Nebraska Cornhuskers.

NASCAR has also given two race suspension for two crew members of Kyle Larson as well. This is done over the 2021 Cup champion losing his rear tier after leaving the pits. His jackman Brandon Johnson and rear tire changer Calvin Teague would have to sit out the Talladega as well as the cup race after that.

Austin Dillon’s new crew chief has positive hopes for the No:3 Chevy team

Justin Alexander recently became the crew chief of the Richard Childress No:3 team after the former crew chief failed get the Austin Dillon out of a poor streak. While talking to the media at Texas, Alaxander pointed out that the team is working hard, and with his familiarity with Dillon they will climb the way to the top slow and steady.

I think I've been with Austin long enough and over a lot of years now. And so I kind of know what he wants and what he needs and really I just want to bring, you know, we're trying to get the team back, running consistently again, and start knocking down some better finishes. Top five, top 10s, top 15s. And climb our way back out of the points hole that we're in. Justin Alexander said.

The suspension might not affect Alexanders’ plan as Covey hasn’t been in the pit-stop since Martinsville. But it is a disappointing news that shouldn’t have been coming out of RCR at this tough phase of their season.
