Bulls announcer rips Spurs for usage of Victor Wembanyama

Chicago Bulls announcer Stacey King did not hold back in criticizing the San Antonio Spurs for how they’ve used Victor Wembanyama.

King was on the call Thursday as the Bulls beat the Spurs in a one-sided 114-95 affair.

Wembanyama was likely the biggest reason that there was a near-capacity crowd at the United Center in Chicago. However, the Spurs didn’t feature him on offense like a true number-one guy, which irked King.

After Wembanyama was ignored for a lob pass yet again, King went in on the Frenchman’s Spurs teammates.

“I don’t know how you miss a 7-foot-4 guy," said King. "I just don’t understand that. He’s yelling to throw the ball up to the rim … It’s almost like his team is reluctant to throw it to him. Wembanyama is your number one guy and everyone else has to find their role after that."

Fittingly enough, the Bulls outscored the Spurs, 53-35, for the rest of the game after King started on his rant.

King added that some of Wemby’s teammates played as if they should be the number one option. King also singled out sophomore Jeremy Sochan for seemingly “avoiding” Wembanyama even when the latter was open to receive an entry pass.

Wembanyama took just eight shots on Thursday. He finished with seven points, five rebounds, five assists, two steals, and three blocks.

Four other Spurs players had double-digit shot attempts.
