In a shocking move last week, the Cleveland Cavaliers signed Anderson Varejao to a 10-day contract. According to head coach J.B. Bickerstaff, Varejao will be available to play in Wednesday night’s game against the Portland Trail Blazers.

“I thought he was gonna take a charge,” Bickerstaff jokingly said when asked about what he saw from Varejao at Tuesday mornings shootaround. “I really did appreciate and respect the way that he played. He’s one of those guys that fits exactly what we’re trying to get our guys to be. He played every year until the wheels fell off. … I think that’s why there’s still that love for him here in Cleveland is because of the style that he played that you had no choice but to respect him.”

Varejao, who established himself as a fan favorite during his first stint in Cleveland, averaged 7.6 points and 7.5 rebounds in 591 games with the Cavs during his first stint.

  • Cleveland will be without Larry Nance Jr. (thumb), Matthew Dellavedova (neck), Taurean Prince (left ankle) and Dylan Windler (left knee) on Wednesday night. They are all likely to miss the remainder of the season.
  • ICYMI: Kevin Love talked about how special it would be to play for his hometown Portland Trail Blazers, as the Cavs will likely look to move on from him this offseason.
