Charlotte Hornets Waive Former 5-Star Recruit

Kobi Simmons is coming off a year where he appeared in five games for the Charlotte Hornets with averages of 1.0 points and 1.0 assists per contest. 

The 26-year-old also spent time in the G League and averaged 18.2 points, 3.8 rebounds and 4.0 assists per contest while shooting 48.9% from the field and 38.3% from the three-point range in 32 regular season games (he also appeared in 14 Showcase Cup games).

Recently, the Hornets announced that they had waived Simmons. 

Via Hornets PR: "August 30, 2023 – President of Basketball Operations and General Manager Mitch Kupchak announced today the team has waived guard Kobi Simmons."

Coming out of high school, Simmons was ranked by ESPN as the 20th-best player in the class of 2016 (fifth-best point guard).

After one season at Arizona, he went undrafted, but he was able to make the NBA in 2017-18 as a member of the Memphis Grizzlies.

Over 38 regular season games, Simmons has career averages of 5.3 points, 1.4 rebounds and 1.9 assists per contest while shooting 41.5% from the field and 27.3% from the three-point range.
