Christian Wood Makes Bold Prediction For Lakers’ Future
Rob Gray-USA TODAY Sports

Christian Wood is optimistic about the Los Angeles Lakers’ chances of bypassing this season’s play-in tournament. Currently situated in ninth place in the Western Conference standings, Wood remains confident that the team can secure a top-six seed.

In the Western Conference, the top six seeds earn direct entry into the playoffs, while teams seeded 7th to 10th contend in the play-in tournament for the final playoff spots.

Here’s what Wood had to say about the Lakers’ future this season:

With a record of 28-26, the Lakers are positioned 13th in the NBA for points per game (116.5) and 18th for points allowed per game (117.1). Their net rating stands at -0.7, placing them 19th in the league.

Christian Wood, who is in his inaugural season with the Lakers, has been contributing an average of 7.0 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 1.0 assist per game. He maintains shooting percentages of 46.8% from the field, 31.5% from beyond the arc, and 69.6% from the free-throw line, accompanied by a plus-minus rating of +2.

The Lakers’ upcoming matchups against the Detroit Pistons and the Utah Jazz before the All-Star break present opportunities and challenges. While the Pistons, holding the NBA’s worst record, seem a likely victory for the Lakers, the Jazz pose a formidable opponent, boasting a strong home record of 17-8.

Having been a play-in team last season, the Lakers advanced through the playoffs to reach the Western Conference Finals. Despite triumphs against the Minnesota Timberwolves and the Memphis Grizzlies, their journey was halted by the Denver Nuggets, who swept them in the conference finals, ultimately clinching the 2023 championship.

As LeBron James nears the twilight of his illustrious career at 39, speculation arises regarding his future with the Lakers. With the possibility of becoming an unrestricted free agent this summer should he decline his 2024-25 player option, James’ decision may hinge on the Lakers’ playoff fate this season.

Additionally, James holds aspirations of playing alongside his son, Bronny, in the NBA, adding further intrigue to his future decisions.
