Clippers waive veteran scorer, adding intriguing name to free agency

The Los Angeles Clippers opted to end any hope of Eric Gordon, and in turn, did not guarantee his nearly-$21M salary for next season. As Andrew Greif of the Los Angeles Times reported, the Clippers waived Gordon just prior to the start of free agency.

The move isn't all that surprising considering Gordon's contract was not guaranteed for next season, and while the 34-year-old guard was solid for the Clippers last season, they may be looking at a bigger move on the horizon. Gordon averaged 11 points in 22 games with the Clippers after beginning the season with the Houston Rockets.

He was excellent shooting the ball from beyond the arc, knocking down 42.3% of his attempts over that span, and also shot 46.3% from the field. Gordon's 24.9 minutes per game were the lowest of his career, and he played 30.2 minutes per game over the span of 47 games with the Rockets to begin the year.

There should be plenty of interest in Gordon heading into free agency, as a number of teams are looking for consistent outside shooting. A consistent and reliable veteran who can still score at a decent rate will likely have a solid market, and we could see multiple contenders reach out early in free agency.
