Could Nets PG Ben Simmons play center this season?

After an offseason of turmoil and uncertainty, the Brooklyn Nets have seemingly resolved issues with star players Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving.

The Nets released a statement earlier this week saying Durant and the team have "agreed to move forward" with their "partnership."

Also, the latest report on Irving's status from The Athletic's Shams Charania claims the Nets have told interested teams he's staying in Brooklyn.

So, everything's hunky-dory in Nets-land.

With Durant and Irving seemingly back in the fold, many now wonder how the team plans to use Ben Simmons this upcoming season.

According to The Athletic's Alex Schiffer, there have been "rumblings" about Simmons playing center for the Nets.

"Nic Claxton and Day'Ron Sharpe remain the only two centers on the roster," Schiffer wrote. "There have been rumblings of Simmons playing center this season and Durant has done so before in small-ball lineups."

A point guard by trade, Simmons has proved to be an effective scorer and rebounder underneath the basket, so the transition to center isn't out of the realm of possibility.

Acquired by the Nets in February as part of the James Harden deal, Simmons never suited up for Brooklyn during the 2021-22 season. Simmons underwent back surgery in May but appears ready to make his return to the hardwood this fall.

A three-time All-Star, Simmons last played during the 2020-21 season, averaging 14.3 points, 7.2 rebounds, 6.9 assists and 1.6 steals over 58 regular-season games.
