Dallas Mavericks Sign New Guard

Dexter Dennis played five seasons of college basketball for Wichita State and Texas A&M.  

This past year, he played in 34 games for the Aggies and averaged 9.5 points, 5.7 rebounds and 1.2 assists per contest while shooting 39.2% from the field and 31.0% from the three-point range.  

This summer, Dennis went unselected in the 2023 NBA Draft.  

However, the Dallas Mavericks have now officially announced that they have signed the 24-year-old. 

Via Mavs PR: "The Mavericks have signed guard Dexter Dennis, bringing the training camp roster to 21 players."

Over his college career, Dennis had career averages of 9.0 points, 5.2 rebounds and 1.1 assists per contest while shooting 37.3% from the field and 33.6% from the three-point range in 146 games.

Following the NBA Draft, he played for the Orlando Magic in the NBA Summer League.

He averaged 9.0 points, 3.0 rebounds and 1.0 steals per contest while shooting 42.4% from the field and 35.7% from the three-point range in four games.

Since Dennis is joining the Mavs for training camp, he could end up with their G League team (Texas Legends) if he doesn't make the roster.  

As for the Mavs, they are coming off a disappointing season where they were the 11th seed in the Western Conference with a 38-44 record. 

After making the Western Conference Finals in 2022, they were unable to return to the NBA playoffs. 

That said, the Mavs have a very talented roster that is led by superstars Kyrie Irving and Luka Doncic.
