Former NBA guard implores Kevin Durant to leave 'cursed' Suns

The Phoenix Suns have lost five of their last six matches and are on a three-game losing streak. They fell to the Dallas Mavericks during their Christmas Day matchup, too. Despite their elite offensive talent, the Suns defense has become a major problem. Opposing teams are now exploiting those issues.

With that in mind, former NBA guard Brandon Jennings took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to share his belief that Kevin Durant should look to leave the Suns.

Durant joined the Suns around the 2023 trade deadline. This summer, the front office doubled down on giving the superstar forward a championship-caliber roster, acquiring Bradley Beal via trade. They also added some rotation talent in separate deals. Jusuf Nurkic was the headliner of those moves.

Yet, Beal has struggled with injury to begin the season. Without Beal on the court, the Suns are marginally worse than they were last season. Their roster construction was designed around having Beal, Durant and Devin Booker on the court together.

Durant has been doing his part. The 35-year-old has played in 25 games and is averaging 30.3 points, 6.2 rebounds and 5.5 assists, shooting 51.8% from the field and 46.9% from three-point range. With so much of the season left to play, Durant will likely be waiting for Beal to return in the hope that things begin to improve once the roster's top three players are consistently sharing the court.

It's been less than a year since Durant joined the Suns. They have made some significant moves to give him a roster capable of contending for a championship. It's highly unlikely that he would look to jump ship so soon, regardless of how the roster is struggling. There's a long way to go between now and the start of the postseason. Every team goes through slumps. Durant is experienced enough to understand the ebbs and flows of the regular season.

As such, Jennings' desire to see Durant leave the Suns is unlikely to happen any time soon. However, if their decline continues throughout the season, things could look different in the summer.
