Former NBA guard Ty Lawson dropped by Chinese Basketball Association team

Ty Lawson officially will not be a part of the upcoming Chinese Basketball Association season. 

The Fujian Sturgeons said Saturday that they cut ties with the former NBA guard due to "inappropriate comments" he allegedly made on social media, according to ESPN. Sportando's Emiliano Carchia reported that the comments in question came from Lawson's Instagram stories.

Lawson played for the Sturgeons last season and led the team to the playoffs. He has been in China since the end of the team's postseason run. 

Fujian says that Lawson's comments were a violation of the team's "social responsibilities and core values" policy. The team didn't offer specifics except to say that Lawson wouldn't be signed to a new deal. 

The 32-year-old was the 18th overall pick in the 2009 NBA Draft by the Minnesota Timberwolves, who later traded him to the Nuggets. 

In his eight-year NBA career, Lawson averaged 12.7 points, six assists and 2.7 rebounds per game while shooting 46 percent from the field and 35.9 percent from beyond the arc. He also played for the Sacramento Kings, Houston Rockets and Indiana Pacers.
