Jeanie Buss's Brother Making Run For President of the United States
Jayne Kamin-Oncea-USA TODAY Sports

In fairly surprising news, Johnny Buss, the brother of Lakers owner Jeanie Buss, is running for President of the United States, per Dan Woike of the LA Times.

Buss, 67, is part-owner and Vice President of Strategic Development for the Lakers. He's set to run as a member of the Independent Party.

Here's a breakdown of his platform, per his campaign website:

"The ‘Buss for America’ campaign is committed to restoring America’s standing on the international stage. We recognize the importance of global leadership, not only for national security and economic prosperity but also for addressing critical global challenges such as climate change, hunger, and displacement. Our approach is based on rebuilding trust, strengthening alliances, and promoting American values of democracy, human rights, and cooperation. Johnny Buss will call for peace and diplomacy on day one in office and look for ways to ensure fairness on the world stage."

Buss' campaign seems relatively moderate, which checks out given that he is running as an independent. It's a bit late to launch a campaign, and he has next to no chance of even staying competitive in any states, but perhaps it's the launchpad for a 2028 campaign that he puts more time, energy, and strategy into.
