Karl-Anthony Towns Faces Massive Injury Update Before Playoffs
Brad Rempel-USA TODAY Sports

It has been over a month since we last saw Karl-Anthony Towns in an NBA game with the Minnesota Timberwolves. The last time he played was March 4th, as he has been sidelined since with a knee injury.

When it was announced that he would miss some time, the update did not come with a concrete timetable for him to get back on the court. The only update was that the Timberwolves were optimistic that he would be able to get back on the court for the NBA Playoffs.

Alas, it turns out there is a chance we see him back in the mix even earlier than that. During a recent segment on Run It Back on FanDuel TV, NBA insider Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium shared a massive update on Towns’ status.

According to Charania, there is a chance that Towns will be back in the lineup before the 2023-24 regular season comes to an end. He was able to get into a scrimmage over the weekend and is nearing a return.

“Great news for Karl-Anthony Towns, he participated in his first team scrimmage on Sunday…There is optimism that Karl-Anthony Towns will play before the playoffs start,” Charania said during his appearance.

That is incredible news for the Timberwolves and Towns. Getting him back on the court to knock off some rust at the end of the regular season, even if it is just part-time and not his regular allotment of minutes, would be big.

Before Towns being sidelined, the Timberwolves were in the mix for the No. 1 seed in the Western Conference. They found success even with him sidelined, going 11-5 and were able to stick in the race, as they are currently tied with the Denver Nuggets atop the conference.

Getting Towns back in the lineup could be the difference between the first and third seeds for Minnesota. The Oklahoma City Thunder are only a game behind the Timberwolves and Nuggets, but Towns’ return could help tip the scales in Minnesota’s direction if he can return as Charania has reported.
