Kendrick Perkins Asserts Bucks Season Is A Failure If They Don't Reach NBA Finals
Michael McLoone-USA TODAY Sports

Kendrick Perkins' assertion on NBA Countdown regarding the Milwaukee Bucks' season reflects the heightened expectations placed upon the team. With the Bucks making significant offseason moves, including the mid-season coaching change from Adrian Griffin to Doc Rivers and player acquisitions like Damian Lillard, the bar was set high for Milwaukee.

"If they don't reach the Finals, it's a failed season for them. It's a failed season for them. I mean, you can't fire Adrian Griffin with a 30-13 record, bring in Doc Rivers, trade Jrue Holiday, bring in Damian Lillard, and not them."

"You can't break that up and all of a sudden have Damian Lillard come in there. You have two top 75 greatest players playing on the same team. It's nowhere in here your expectations shouldn't be reaching the NBA Finals."

Perkins emphasized the magnitude of the Bucks' roster, boasting two of the NBA's top 75 greatest players in Giannis Antetokounmpo and Damian Lillard. With such talent at their disposal, Perkins argued that anything short of a trip to the NBA Finals would constitute a failure for the Bucks organization.

The Bucks' season has been a tale of adjustments and improvements. Despite a shaky start marked by defensive struggles under Griffin's tenure, the team managed to maintain a respectable record of 30-13. However, changes were deemed necessary, leading to the appointment of Doc Rivers as head coach.

Under Rivers' leadership, the Bucks experienced a transitional period, facing challenges as they adapted to new systems and strategies. Despite this adjustment phase, the team has shown signs of progress, currently enjoying an 8-3 run post the All-Star break. Notably, their defense has seen significant improvement, climbing from 23rd in the league to 12th since Rivers took over.

As the Bucks gear up for the postseason, they face formidable competition in the Eastern Conference, particularly from the Boston Celtics, who boast the best record in the league. The road to the NBA Finals will undoubtedly be arduous, requiring the Bucks to navigate through a competitive landscape and showcase their resilience and determination.

Kendrick Perkins' statement underscores the lofty expectations placed upon the Milwaukee Bucks this season. With a talented roster and improved performance under Doc Rivers, anything short of a Finals appearance would be deemed a disappointment for the franchise. The Bucks must continue to strive for excellence as they embark on their postseason journey.

The Bucks Have To Go Through Damian Lillard To Overcome The Boston Celtics

As the Milwaukee Bucks prepare to challenge the dominant Boston Celtics in the Eastern Conference, they face a formidable obstacle in Damian Lillard. The Celtics, boasting a league-best record of 52-14 and ranking at the top of offensive and 2nd in defensive ratings, present a daunting challenge for any opponent.

While the Bucks showcase a potent offense, ranked 5th in the league, their success hinges on their ability to stifle the Celtics' high-octane offense and contain their defensive prowess. However, injuries, including Khris Middleton's absence for 23 games, have hindered Milwaukee's consistency throughout the season.

To overcome the Celtics and assert themselves as contenders in the East, the Bucks must navigate through the enigmatic presence of Damian Lillard. Acquired to be the difference-maker, Lillard has delivered solid performances, averaging 24.3 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 6.9 assists per game. Despite these respectable numbers, Lillard's impact transcends mere statistics, as his clutch playmaking and ability to take over games remain unparalleled.

While Lillard has had a good season by most standards, there is a sense that he has yet to unleash his full potential. With his trademark "Dame time" looming, the Bucks must be prepared to confront Lillard at his best. Employing a defensive strategy centered around containing Lillard's offensive onslaught will be crucial for Milwaukee's success against the Celtics.

Furthermore, the Bucks must prioritize getting Lillard involved in their offensive schemes, allowing him to dictate the tempo and create scoring opportunities for himself and his teammates. By entrusting Lillard with the responsibility of orchestrating their offense, the Bucks can exploit his playmaking prowess and capitalize on his ability to elevate his game in critical moments.

As the playoffs draw near, the Bucks must embrace the challenge posed by Lillard and the Celtics, recognizing that their path to Eastern Conference supremacy runs through the dynamic point guard. Only by effectively neutralizing Lillard and leveraging their offensive firepower can the Bucks hope to emerge victorious and stake their claim as legitimate contenders in the East.
