Lakers’ Anthony Davis Receives Resounding Take From NBA Legend
Stephen Lew-USA TODAY Sports

Entering the 2023-24 NBA season, the Los Angeles Lakers were surrounded by high hopes and expectations. Many anticipated that their star-studded lineup would make them a top contender in the Western Conference.

However, the reality has been sobering, as the Lakers find themselves with only the 10th-best record in the West. Although they’ve clinched a spot in the Play-In Tournament, the team’s performance has fallen short in several key areas.

During a recent NBA on TNT segment, the panel, including Charles Barkley, delved into the issues facing the Lakers this season. Barkley lauded Anthony Davis, highlighting his exceptional season and defending him against critics by stating,

“He’s not the reason the Lakers suck.” Barkley attributed the team’s disappointing performance to the lack of support from the rest of the roster, including LeBron James, despite him being the leading scorer.

With both James and Davis on the team, expectations were naturally high, yet the outcomes have not met these hopes.

Although the Lakers can theoretically advance deep into the playoffs via the Play-In Tournament, reaching the NBA Finals seems improbable this year.

Looking ahead, the future of the Lakers, particularly with aging stars like Davis and James, prompts speculation about potential changes and strategies as their careers near their twilight years. The upcoming offseason could be pivotal in shaping the next chapter of this storied franchise.

The Lakers will now face the New Orleans Pelicans in the Play-In Tournament before considering future playoff scenarios or offseason changes. The impact Davis provides will play an important role.
